Mechanical differences between two and three dimensional model of the human mandible
A new biomechanical three-dimensional (3D) model for the human mandibule is proposed. A simple two-dimensional model cannot explain the biomechanics of the human mandibule, where muscular forces through occlusial surfaces and condyles are in the state of dynamical 3D equlibrium. All forces are resolved into componeents according to choosen coordinate system. The muscular forces, which during clenching act on the jaw, besides necessary force level for chewing, also act as some kind of stabilizers of the mandibular condyls as prevention for dislocation and loading of nonarticular tissues.
