REALATION BETWEEN SUBDIVISION AND SAFETY OF RO-RO SHIPS
With respect to the increased safety requirements of Ro-Ro ships, it is necessary to develop improved design tools. The relation between subdivision and safety, namely between the attained subdivision index and the safety that it determines was studied first. In order to provide a basis for comparison, number of ships were collected and analysed. The database covered two characteristic groups of two basic design types of Ro-Ro ships, and their variants. The rules based on the probability concept have been applied to the case study and the design variants analysed. The relation between the attained index of subdivision and variation of breadths from B/5 to B/8 of the wing tanks, as well as the influence of variation of height of watertight deck, have been analysed and minimal requirements were established.
