Dynamic Analysis of an Air-Conditioning system with Heat Pump

In this paper, dynamic operation analysis of a low-velocity central air-conditioning system with heat pump, in dependence of changing the operating conditions during the year, is performed. For this purpose, the original hour-by-hour simulation model of the system is developed. The model consists of two integrated parts: the model for calculation of heat loss or heat gain to the space and the model for determination of the heating and cooling load imposed on the air-conditioning system. The former part is based on the heat balance method and it is applicable to the spaces of different dimensions and orientations. The latter part enables the hour-by-hour analysis with determination of the energy and mass consumption of the system components. For the purpose of analysis, hourly meteorological data in form of the Test Reference Year for the Zagreb-area are used. The hourly and monthly energy consumption results for the air-conditioning system with heat pump, also with comparison to the standard central air-conditioning system, are presented in the proper graphs. Flexibility of the developed simulation model gives a possibility to analyze and compare different air-conditioning systems, including different energy recovery systems. The obtained results are prepared to be used for further functional and financial analysis of an air-conditioning system, including the investment costs, operating costs and maintenance costs.
