Vortex Flowmeter for Liquid and Gas Flow Measurement
This paper presents the principle of the vortex shedding flowmeter operation, the design characteristics of different vortex flowmeter types and the results of a detailed study into vortex shedding with a queasy two-dimensional vortex generator in a circular pipe. Optimized bluff body dimensions were used. The K-factor linearity was found to be better than 0.75% in the range 1:20 for a Reynolds number larger than 20000 and better than 1.5% for a Reynolds number larger than 11000. The prototype series was produced and calibrated with water and air. The mean Strouhal number for the entire series was 0.848 with linearity limits of  1.5%. The effects of upstream and downstream disturbances were studied. Heat energy metering for steam and hot water flow measurement is proposed as the most promising application.
