Testing and evaluation of pitting corrosion susceptibility of welded stainless steel
Suceptibility of welded stainless steel AISI304 to pitting corrosioon is investigated.Welded specimens were exposed to FeCl3 solution according to ASTM G 48-92 in following states : as welded (AW),ground (GR),mechanically polished (MP),pickled (PI), electrocleaned withlow/high current density (EC1/EC2) and electropolished (EP).The consequences of the exposureare analysed separately for the surface of the weld (W zone), for the surface with heat tints (HT zone) ,and for the base metal surface (BM zone).7 criteria were used for the evaluation of pitting susceptibility, among them maximum pit depth (hmax) pit density (n/S,number of pits per unit area) and penetration density (P/S, sum of pit depths per unit area ).
