An Application of Plastic Overpotential for Evaluation the Plastic Shakedown Boundary

A structure or structural components which operate (mainly within framework of nuclear power plant applications) in condition of plastic shakedown, have been the subject of extensive study. A suitable description of yield violation for the plastic shakedown behavior of structures is a plastic overpotential which has been introduced by Polizzotto, Ref. 6. The characteristics of plastic overpotential are very similar as those of the yield function. This paper obtains the nonratchetting condition for reversed plasticity using the concept of plastic overpotential. An example is presented as illustration of this approach.
