Vibrations of a mechanical system with clearance subjected to a multi-harmonic periodic excitation
Forced steady state vibrations of a mechanical system with a clearance subjected to a multi-harmonic periodic excitation are considered. A clearance is modeled by a symmetric piecewise-linear force-displacement relationship. Equations for calculating non-linear frequency response characteristics are derived in the frequency domain by the incremental harmonic balance method. The results are valuated by a piecewise-linear technique. By comparing the results (very good agreement is obtained) it is shown, that the incremental harmonic balance method can be successfully applied to such systems.
