An interdisciplinary approach to flax research
The paper presents the results of the phenological, morphological and textile- technological properties of five foreign cultivars of fibre flax. The influence of fertilizers on the properties of the plant and fibre was monitored by cultivation of fibre flax with the addition of various nitrogen rates (0, 30, 60 and 90 kg/ha) applied at different development stages. Cultivar trials with fibre flax were set up in lowland continental part of Croatia in Zagreb on anthropogenized eutric cambisol and in Križevci on pseudogley on level terrain. Based on a research of phenological, morphological and textile- technological properties of fibre flax it has been found that there are significant differences between the investigated cultivars and between the applied nitrogen rates. According to the results obtained for the studied traits of fibre flax fertilization, it is not necessary to add more than 30 kg nitogen/ha. Cultivars Agatha, Electra and Viola achieved higher values of the investigated properties: longest length of fibres, slightly coarser fibres, strongest fibbers.
