ANALYTICAL METHOD FOR ESTIMATING OPTIMAL SHIP EQUIPMENT REPLACEMENT PERIOD

The paper considers the assessment of economic acceptability of repairing and replacing the old ship equipment (outfit) by the new one, by an analytical method. First, the basic categories of repair and maintenance of ships, such as unscheduled voyage repairs, planned maintenance and overhauls are described. Then, the new approaches such as preventive and predictive maintenance is described and discussed. Additionally, the possible cases and solutions of assessing the economic acceptability of repairing (overhauling) and replacing the equipment, by the analytical method, are described and analysed. Particularly, the an analytical method for estimation of optimal replacement period of ship equipment is explained through numerical example.
