Comparison of surface topography obtained by high speed cutting and grinding
With high speed cutting, in particular high speed milling, it is possible to obtain the machined surfaces of a such quality that is, with classical approach, obtained by grinding. This paper presents the results of comparison of characteristics of machined surfaces belonging to the same surface roughness category, but obtained by two different machining processes, grinding and high speed milling. By comparing a number of parameters defining surface roughness and waviness, it is possible to answer if there are the differences in topography characteristics of the surfaces obtained by grinding and high speed milling that could influence tribological behavior of the surface.
