Adhesion wear resistance of heat treated steels for artillery weapon barrel

The paper describes the procedure and results of adhesive wear resistance tests done on the samples made of the 30CrNiMo8, 39NiCrMo3 and 42CrMo4 steels, which are suitable for artillery weapon barrel production. All samples were quenched and tempered at 50 ± ; 2 HRC. One third of samples was subsequently hard-chrome plated, and the other one third of samples was nitrated. The adhesive tribological pair was made of chosen steel and CuZn39Pb2 brass samples. The brass is used to produce the rotating band of an artillery projectile. The measured friction force FF and frictional coefficient CF were the wear intensity indicators. They were the least at nitrated samples.
