Thermomechanical Treatment of a -CuZn27Al4 Shape Memory Alloy

A CuZn27Al4 alloy was deformed in the region of the stable, homogeneous -phase by 20 to 80 % at 800 C ( ausforming treatment ).The effect of that treatment on microstructure, strength, hardness of -phase and on transformation temperatures was analysed. Deformation of - phase during hot rolling increases mechanical properties and pseudo-elasticity of alloy. The purpose of microstructure investigation was to analyse the effect of ausforming treatment on - phase microstructure. By DSC measurement a lowering of transformation temperatures was registered. The martensitic transformation is complete at all amounts of deformation. The results of this investigation are useful for improvement of mechanical and pseudo-elastic properties of CuZn27Al4 alloy.
