Theoretical basis of the experimental contact caustics

Optical method of caustics is applied to analyze stress distribution in the regions of high gradients of deformation. It is successfully applied in fracture mechanics for determination of stress-intensity factors for the cracks in extremely loaded structures. As the singularity at the crack tip is successfully solved, similarity could be fined in the force that occurs in contact of two elastic bodies. This paper describes the procedure for contact force determination by the method of caustics. The theoretical basis and complete procedure of force determination is developed and simulated for typical cases of loading conditions. Task of experiments is prediction of the future of inspected material surface and the assessment of the structure lifetime.
