Blasius of Moravče, a Fifteenth-Century Canon of Zagreb and his Legal Manuscripts
After having analyzed the main biographic data on Blasius of Moravče, a fifteenth-century canon of Zagreb chapter, who studied at Ferrara and Padua, the author focuses on three manuscripts preserved in Bibliotheca Metropolitana in Zagreb (MR 17, 18 and 60). They were copied by Blasius during his studies abroad, and contain a series of canon law treatises, some of them untill now unknown. Blasius’ books illuminate particular questions on the courses on canon law at the University of Padua 1463-1467, and his copying activities can be traced quite thoroughly as well. The author concludes that Blasius’ collection is clearly Paduan style, and that it consisted of handbooks or reference which a Zagreb canon deemed useful for his future legal practice.
