Development of occupation and qualification standards and improvement of DVM study programme at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Zagreb

Croatian Qualification Framework (CQF) is closely related to the European Qualifications Framework and the levels of the Qualifications framework of the European Higher Education Area. According to the register of CQF there is a lack of standards of occupation and qualification for the profession Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in Croatia. For this reason, a project with the main goal of setting the acquired standard at its place was proposed. That will be achieved by implementing and assessing learning outcomes as a base of learning process in integrated undergraduate and graduate study of veterinary medicine. The duration of the project will be 3 years. Through the CQF and prescribed tools for securing and improving the quality of the study program we would be able to: a) develop a standard of occupation for the profession of DVM ; b) develop a standard of qualification for DVM ; and c) improve the procedures of quality assurance. Some specific activities to be carried out in the project include various improvements in teaching methods that fall under 3Rs principles: e-project of vertical and horizontal integration of the courses and/or virtual atlases and teaching models collections. A significant emphasis in this project is being set on founding and building the capacities of skills lab, both infrastructural and organization wise. Software for improving the examination system and student self-analysis ; development of an online system for conducting student and teaching surveys and on-line analysis of exam questions will improve the quality assurance procedures. Continuous improvement of teachers' professional and teaching competencies makes an important part of the project as well as students gaining of entrepreneurial and life skills. The main outcomes of this project are establishment of modern and relevant study program and constant improvement of the quality that will have an impact on all individuals within the institution, including students and employees, as well as external stakeholders.
