Pedestrian accident patterns in Croatia
The aim of this study was to establish pedestrian accident patterns. Studied were the following features: scene of accident /urban area or not/, roadway, pedestrian crossing, crossroad, pavement, time of accident, transport to hospital, time elapsed from accident to admission in hospital, consequences of accident, stay in hospital. It was established that pedestrians constitute the most vulnerable group of road users both in terms of the consequences of accidents and in terms of the number of accident involving pedestrians. Of all pedestrians, elderly and the children outnumber all other age groups in terms of accident involvement and injury. Programmes that would ensure better pedestrian safety, based on the latest world achievements, need to be created.
