Modification of Spartium Junceum L. fibers by Nanoparticles
Aim of this research was to investigate properties of Spartium Junceum L. (SJL) fibers modified by nanoparticles (nanoclay) for the purpose of reinforcement of PLA matrix. The fibers were obtained by microwave maceration process in the alkali environment. Morphology of fibers surface after the modification with nanoparticles was explored using Scanning electron microscope (SEM) while chemical composition was determined by the application of Electron dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). Both, tensile strength and TGA analysis results revealed noticeable improvement of mechanical and thermal properties upon the treatment with nanoparticles. One of the critical issues of novel research targeting products to be used in automotive industry is application of green and biodegradable materials. Therefore, 5-days degradation treatment with Savinase 16L enzyme was performed and characterized by infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) to determine biodegradability of composite material. Furthermore, energy properties of residues from the fibre production were evaluated by examining the content of noncombustible and combustible matter, higher and lower heating values and micro and macro-elements of biomass to provide excellent input for further production of biofuels.
