A review of Electrocoagulation Process Parameters for Industrial Wastewater Treatment

In this paper recent findings in the application of electrocoagulation for industrial wastewater treatment have been reviewed, focusing on the effects that process parameters (such as current density, pH, reactor design, etc.) have on the pollution removal efficiency. Additionally, the total nitrogen removal efficiency was investigated on a full-scale electrocoagulation unit. It was found that total nitrogen removal efficiency by aluminium electrodes, for the same or slightly varying current, depends on the flow rate through the electrodes and the duration of the treatment (electrocoagulation). Average removal rates of total nitrogen were 16 mg/l·h and 39 mg/l·h for 0.3 l/s and 0.03 L/s flow rates.
