Large sharks in the Eastern Adriatic
In the Eastern Adriatic, large sharks have never been the subject of specific studies. This paper presents data concerning historical and recent records of six species that are rare in the Eastern Adriatic: Carcharodon carcharias (Linnaeus, 1758), Isurus oxyrinchus Rafinesque, 1810, Lamna nasus (Bonnaterre, 1788), Sphyrna zygaena (Linnaeus, 1758), Sphyrna tudes (Valenciennes, 1822) and Cetorhinus maximus (Gunnerus, 1765). Also, information on other large sharks, which are more common, has been presented, including information on beginning of monitoring of large sharks in the Eastern Adriatic that started in year 2000.
