The main problem of the transplant medicine is how to increase the number of organ donors. The experiences from more developed societis indicate that it is not enough to simply pass positive legislation on transplantion. It turns out that in each country it is necessary to work on raising the awareness of the society about organ donations with the purpose of treating gravely ill patiens. Such an organized and demanding process was started by the founders of the Donor Network of Croatia in 1996. The author of this booklet, Margita Pavleković, is also a member of the Council of the Donor Network of Croatia. She decided to share fragments of her life with dialysis, and her transplantation experience with the wider audience. The story presents real events and the names of people involved have not been changed. This makes the story a document of its time. The author is a professor. It is her wish that the issue of cadaveric organ donations, being an important topic in the health education of young people, gets included in primary and secondary school curricula. She considers the story told in this booklet to be an appropriate motivation for the discussion by teachers and students about this socially important topic - organ transplantations in Croatia.
