RPC structures in Croatia
Ultra high performance, fiber-reinforced concrete is one of the main subjects of research work in the field of civil engineering. In Croatia, preliminary investigations for selecting the right ingredients to produce reactive powder concrete (RPC) were done. In the second stage of laboratory testing, RPC was prepared according to some of the basic principles. In this paper, a description is given of the selection of optimum formulation of reactive powder concrete based on the results of compressive and flexural strengths tests. Improved mechanical properties and durability of RPC meet requirements set for the possible construction of the first structure in Croatia to be made of RPC, i.e. the arch bridge over the Bakar Strait. The whole bridge is planned to be constructed by using the precast RPC segments. In this paper, a presentation is also given of the study of standardized precast arch bridges, made of RPC, with spans of 200, 300, 400 and 500 meters.
