Non-destructive methods for monitoring of reinforcing steel in concrete
A serious problem of concrete infrastructure deterioration, as a result of reinforced steel corrosion, goes along with great economical consequences. Deterioration, caused by corrosion, is connected with the usage of thawing salts, marine environments impact, and the atmospheric carbon dioxide influences. All sorts of engineering works, such as the traffic engineering works, bridges, tunnels, buildings, are in danger. This gives great importance to the corrosion measuring and evaluation of a structure&#8217 ; ; s service life. There are many non-destructive methods for the corrosion determination which can be divided into the electrochemical and non-electrochemical methods. An overview of the most frequent non-destructive, non-electrochemical corrosion determination methods applied for the reinforced concrete is presented. The non-electrochemical methods include different approaches, from visual inspections of concrete structures to more sophisticated methods. The newly developed methods are also presented.
