Effect of photoselective netting on productivity and pre and postharvest quality traits of 'Cripps Pink’ apple

The study aimed to determine the effect of photoselective nets on productivity, pre and post-harvest quality of 'Cripps Pink’ apples. The apples were raised as slender spindles with a spacing of 3.4 m × 1.3 m. The experiment consisted of the trees covered after petal fall with red, yellow, and white photoselective nets (AGRITECH S.r.l., Eboly, Italy), and of uncovered trees that served as control. Although fruits cultivated under yellow net, in general, achieved good fruit quality, non- significant trend is evident that fruit grown under yellow net has poor red coloration which is an important commercial trait for 'Cripps Pink' apple. Nets didn't achieve an effect on apple productivity, fruit size, and fruit mass. During cold storage and shelf life, fruit grown without net tend to degrade color faster than fruit grown under nets. The red net can be recommended due to the favorable effect on fruit color and minimal negative effects on fruit quality.
