Solutions for Mechanical and Electromagnetic Problems in Bulb Type Hydropower Unit

The paper presents the results of studying the specific problems that occurred during the exploitation of two bulb generators, and the methods for solving them. The paper focuses particularly on two groups of problems, which were more pronounced on only one of the two hydropower units, and these are increased vibrations of the hydropower unit and electromechanical oscillations, which significantly depend on the operating point of the drive. Non-standard solutions are mentioned which tend to eliminate the problem of vibrations by short-circuiting the excitation winding of one pole, in order to compensate for geometric non-symmetry by magnetic non-symmetry. The resulting problems have stimulated the user to install several sensors into the generator itself, thus enabling the measuring of the otherwise, in other generators non-measurable values (air gap width, flux density in air-gap, etc.) and thus allowing easier and more accurate interpretation of phenomena, as well as repair of the resulting problems during the operation of the hydropower unit
