Telemedicine in Neurosurgery
In August 1998 the Ministry of Health has established the biggest and most comprehensive teleradiology project in Croatia. During past period an archive with 6850 expert opinions at neurosurgery department has been collected. The most common diagnosis was neurotrauma, and almost equally frequent were cerebrovascular and brain tumors. The teleradiological system was very rarely used for lumbar disc disease and hydrocephalus. The mosdt valuable in teleradiological examinations were desitions for proper and effective patient treatment. In this way 256 (18%) patients were urgently admitted in our department and operated upon, while 527 (37%) patients were sheduled for operations which were performed later. 641 (45%)patients who were in bad conditions or if there was no indication for neurosurgical treatment, were properly treated in regional hospitasls following our instructions. Current resulrs show good effectivness of teleradiological system with present teleradiology network.
