Influence of pinching and growth retardant on growth and development of lavender (Lavandula vera)
In order to obtain compact pot plants of Lavandula vera cv. Lady plants were pinched and treated with daminozide (Alar 85) in concentrations of 0, 1% and 0, 2% every 15 days during the vegetation. The goal was to find out if there was any difference in plant height, number of lateral branches and beginning of flowering between pinched plants and those treated with growth retardant. Pinching combined with 0, 2% Alar 85 treatment resulted in the lowest plant height. These plants were 47% shorter then control plants that were 35% shorter than non-pinched plants. Non-pinched plants, which were treated with Alar 85 in 0, 1% concentration, had 5, 4% more lateral branches then control plants. Non-pinched plants flowered earlier then pinched ones.
