The Efficiency of Mineral Fertilization on Wheat and Maize Production
Wheat and maize are the most important arable crops in Croatia. About 615 thousands ha are sawn under these crops which is more than 42% of the total. On the basis of marginal efficiency method, production function parameters are determined for selected family farms. Deviations of realized and potential yields in relation to applied and available nutrients for 20-30% were registered. Due to calculation of marginal production efficiency, average yields needed for satosfactory efficiency of wheat and maize production are for 10-15% higher then average yields that have been realized in this sector recently. Research point out the need of more rational fertilizing system that has to be applid within family farms, and which has to be based on knowing the potential soil fertility as well as marginal efficiency of applied doses.
