Influence of liming with Carbocalk on yields sugar beet and maize

Carbocalk (a byproduct at sugar beet processing) was applied on acid soil (pH in KCl = 4.2) in a dose of 15 t/ha and 30 t/ha. Fertilization of 15t/ha brought about soil pH value increase (in KCl) from 4.2 to 5.8 wheres amount of 30 t/ha CC increased pH from 4.2 to 7.3. Maize was grown on the tested plot in the first year followed by sugar beet in the second year. CC fertilization resulted in maize grain yield increase from 3.97 t/ha (0 t/ha CC) to 4.47 t/ha (15 t/ha CC), i.e. 7.98 t/ha (30 t/ha CC). At the same time CC fertilization consideranly reduced a number of sterile plants from 41.9% (0 t/ha) to 6.7% (30 t/ha) under drought stress. Average sugar beet yield increased from 39.6 t/ha (0 t/ha) to 49.2 t/ha (15 t/ha), i.e. to 60.9 t/ha (30 t/ha). Sugar content decreased from 14.5% (0 t/ha) to 13.6% (30 t/ha).
