Application of numerical methods to the TLC investigation of the essential fruit oil of Vitex agnus-castus L.

A rational selection of a restricted set from twelve available TLC systems for the separaion of the components of the essential fruit oil of Vitex agnus-castus L. was investigated. For the selection of preferred combionation of two or more systems. Zwo mathematical approachs have been applied. The first approach was to consider every possible combination of two or more chromatographic systems and o calculate the information content or discriminating power for each combination. As a second approach the chromaographic systems were classified into dissimilar groups and of each group with similar separation characterisics the best system was selected according to the information content or discriminating power. The classification was carried out by the numerical taxonomy methods.
