Sedimentation of magnesium hydroxide in seawater and its effect on plant capacity

The sedimentation rate of magnesium hydroxide in seawater was examined for different degrees of completeness of precipitation and for different additions of the A-130 flocculant. The study showed that incomplete precipitation of magnesium hydroxide, i.e. precipitation with a nonstehiometric quantity of precipitation agent, considerably increased the rate of sedimentation of magnesium hydroxide, and thus the capacity of the thickener was also increased. At a precipitaion of 80 percentage the capacity of the thickener increased by 71 percentage in relation to complete precipitation. Calculations were made according to Kynchs theory.
