Infections in patients with neurotrauma
In the Intensive care unit (ICU) in the Clinical Hospital Rijeka were from 1991.1997 year 469 patients with neurotrauma. The stay in ICU was 7628 days, per patient 15 days and time period spent on ventilator was per patient 10 days. The most common infections were: pneumonia, sepsis and meningitis. Pneumonia is the most common complication specialy with the patients on thej ventilaror. In our patients we have 17,9% of pneumonia. Pathogenes of pneumonia were gram-bacilli or gram+cocci. Spesis is a comoplication we have on 10,1% of patinet swith neurotrauma. pathogenes of spesis were gram- bacilli, gram+ cocci or fungi. Meningitis we have on 4,5% patients, and the cause were gram- bacilli. In patients with neurotrauma there was 32,5% of complications. Brown and al. sugested that secundary infections in ICU are high up till 42%.
