Occurance of trichinellosis in wild game at forest habitats in the Eastern Croatia
Trichinellosis is considered to be a dangerous zoonosis, that has become the most serious public health threatening problem within invasive diseases in the last decade in Croatia. The most frequent source of the human invasion is the consummation of undercooked, improperly roasted or dried pork or wild boar’ s meet, in which the cysts of a nematode Trichinella are present. Monitoring of the epidemiological and epizootiological situation in Croatia has shown the prevalence of disease in the areas of Eastern Slavonija, which are marked as endemics. This region is well known for its traditional way of breeding and swine slaughtering, as well as for its specific processing of meet products. This long-term practise enables contacts with sylvatic reservoirs of trichinellosis and, on the other side, gives possibility for the wild animals invasion inside the forests, by eating the carcasses of trichinellotic domestic swine.
