Sorption Properties of Medullated Wool
For many years, wool scouring and finishing have been considered environmentally most unfavourable processes in textile industry. Nowadays, enzymes and enzyme complexes, because of their ecological nature and ways of improving fibres primary characteristic, are used in these processes. Sorption properties, as well as the changes in sorption and morphological properties, resulting from different enzymatic treatments during scouring of raw medullated wool, are investigated in this work. Measurements that are carried out (water sorption at different humidity, sorption kinetics, swelling, dye sorption from bath, dyeing kinetics and dye content measurement after dyeing) indicate that enzymatic scouring results in higher scouring efficiency and whiteness of wool on one hand and better sorption properties on the other. At the same time, significant morphological changes and fibre damage are not recorded. So, with the aim of environment protection it is reasonable, ecologically and economically manner to use enzymes directly in scouring bath.
