Characterisation of 1,4-disubstituted 2,5- diketopiperazines by ESI mass spectrometry

The diketopiperazines have been steadily attracting researchers’ attention in pharmaceutical chemistry due to their potential biological effects. Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI MS) is known to be a versatile analytical technique for detection of very low concentrations of various diketopiperazines in different samples. Hence, we characterized our p- disubstituted phenyldiketopiperazines1 (R = H), 2 (R = NO2) and 3 (R = -N(CH3)) by ESI MS. We have shown that the majority of the fragment ions in the ESI mass spectra originated from reactions initiated by one of the nitrogen atoms of the piperazine ring.
