Standardisation of Paliurus spina-chrisiti Extracts by HPLC

The plant material for this investigation was collected in different parts of Croatia and Herzegovina. It showed in all it's parts a rich flavonoid pattern which was thus used for standardisation. Therefore, methanolic extracts were prepared and an HPLC method for separation and quantification developed. The peak areas of the flavonoids were calculated as isoquercitrin. As with HPLC it was possible to determine the flavonoid fingerprint, we found out that quercetin 3-O-rhamnoglucoside 7-O-rhamnoside was the main flavonoid of the leaves and rutin those of flowers and fruits. Concerning the flavonoid content and the quality of the methanolic extracts of Paliurus spina-christi no difference could be found between growing sites at the sea ( Zadar ) and others up-country ( Ljubuški ).
