Analysis of the Hertzian stress in High Transverse Contact Ratio Involute Gearing
High contact ratio (HCR) gears are non-standard involute spur gears with a transverse contact ratio bigger than two. This paper deals with the analysis of the Hertzian stress in HCR-gearing. Based on the realistic load distribution, which has been determined by using own developed software, the Hertzian stress along the path of contact has been calculated. A comparison of the results with the DIN 3990 - Standard HCR-gears calculation, shows that the DIN-Standard procedure gives averagely significant higher values of the Hertzian stress in HCR-gearing. This leads to oversized gearboxes and too big safety factors.
