Phenomenon on drought in Eastern Croatia
Researches of the phenomena of dry and warm years as well as the changes of weather conditions were carried out in the period 1965-1990 on three locations (Osijek, Đakovo, Brestovac) for the area of eastern Croatia. Drastically appearance of the dry period has been noticed and lasted since 1981 till today. The share of the dry years been increased from 20 % to 50-70 %. thus, now it is almost every second year dry per its hydrological properties. At the same time annual and vegetation precipitation are (sufficient water) decreased. In the dry year series only 494 mm and in vegetation 247 mm precipitation has been fallen on the average yearly. This is a limit of crop water requirements. Water losses (deficient) by evapotranspiration have been significantly increased, thus, resulted in more water supply reduction for the plants in the soil. Thats why needs for irrigation especially of spring crops in eastern Croatia have been more important. This specially refers to seed crops (maize, sugar beet, vegetables, vineyards, orchards).
