Report from 24th CIA Symposim: Allergy frontiers and futures
The Collegium Internationale Allergologicum was founded in 1954 by a group of the most distinguished physicians and scientists in medicine and emerging field of allergy and clinical immunology. From the beginning the Collegium was intended to be an exclusive club of fields sharing the common pursuit of excellence in research in a spirit of intellectual exchange. The Collegium is an international group for the study of scientific and clinical problems in allergy and related branches of medicine and immunology. The Collegium aims to promote the humble spirit of scientific enquiry, friendly cooperation, good fellowship and professional relationship in the field of allergy - the article 1 of the CIA constitution sums this up me appropriately. The 24th CIA Symposium: Allergy Frontiers and Futures took place at the Southampton Princess Hotel in Southampton, Bermuda. Located off the coast of North Carolina, Bermuda. To be there, someone must be proposed by CIA Council Meeting Member. For Prof. Aleksandra Basta-Juzbašić and myself was privilege to be sponsored by Professor Ring and included in scientific program of this very prestige Meeting in Poster Session "Experimental Therapeutics II", with presentation "Expression of CD 30+ and CD45RO in acute atopic Dermatitis skin lesions" with coworkers G. Golub, V. Milavec-Puretić, J. Jakić-Razumović. We have presented our data of the investigation of the inflammatory infiltrate in skin biopsies of patients with acute flares of atopic dermatitis (AD) in comparison with nickel induced allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). Our results showed an association of CD30 expression with AD, but not with ACD. The results suggested a specific regulatory function of CD30+T cells in acute AD. During the Farewell Dinner in Poincianna Ballroom at the Southampton Fairmont Princess Hotel on Wednesday, November 6, 2002 was nomination new CIA Council Directory 2002-2004. The elected president is Professor Johannes Ring. Under new CIA Members was elected Jasna Lipozenčić, MD, PhD as the first CIA Member from Croatia. As Professor Ring said: "Good intellectual spirit will be present in Collegium Internationale Allergologicum in future". Future Symposium will be held in Denmark in two years. We express our congratulation to new CIA president Professor Ring, international scientific leader, and a friend of Croatian dermatovenerologists and allergologists.
