90Sr in some vegetables collected in Croatia
Strontium isotope, 90Sr is very dangerous for human health. It is responsible for the dose to bone marrow and bone lining cells through the ingestion pathways. Therefore 90Sr is regularly determined in natural samples such as fallout, geographic and drinking waters, soil, and especially in food and fodder. Strontium is pure $-emitter, and for that reason it is necessary to isolate it when determining it!s activity in natural samples. From natural samples 90Sr is isolated by use of method, which include simultaneously separation from silicium, calcium, iron, potassium and some other elements. The yttrium, as carrier, is introduced and 90Y is separated as oxalate, and counted in low level beta counter In our paper we present the data of 90Sr activity in potatoes, cabbage, lettuce and dry kidney beans collected at three locations in Republic of Croatia over last five years.
