Comparative gonadogenesis of cultured and wild mediterranean Amberjack, Seriola dumerili and results of hormonal treatments.
Gametogenesis of amberjack, Seriola dumerili was observed through four years on captive fish raised from 3-4 months old fingerlings. These were compared to gonad specimens and biometric features of wild caught amberjacks obtained from local fishermen. In the spawning trials during the 1997. year, wild and captive fish were chosen, and injected Luteinizing hormone releasing hormone (LHRH), and in 1998. year human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG). LHRH was applyed in concentration of 30-50 ug/kg of fish, and HCG in 1000 I.U./kg if fish doses. First spawning occurred 66 hours after HCG hormonal treatment, when 750 g of eggs were collected and in second spawning, after 90 hours 1250 g of eggs was collected.
