The privatisation of the tourist sector in Croatia during the transitional and war conditions (The five year period review)
When the Berlin wall fell in 1990 and most of the middle and eastern European countries proceeded to have free elections, in Croatia three things happened: a) a first signs of the war appeared, b) transition have been inaugurated, c) the process of the national emancipation towards full independence had been activated. These events have had particularly important implications for tourism in Europe because they directly influenced the privatisation typology of the biggest and most valuable tourist sector in Middle and Eastern Europe. In this article the authors will present and analyse the initial circumstances, the process and the results of the tourism sector privatisation in Croatia during the war period, with the aim to explain the development aspirations of a young national economy. At the same time, the aspiration of a foreign capital that tries to enter a specific transitional environment will be examined.
