Algal growth potential (AGP) and toxicity of the waters of the Stara Drava channels and the Sakadaš Lake (Kopački rit, Croatia)
Algal growth potential and water toxicity of the Stara Drava channels and the Sakadaš Lake (Kopački rit, Croatia) were studied, by a miniaturized bioassay method. Nitrogen und phosphorus were the key elements limiting the growth of the test alga Chlorella kessleri in water of the Stara Drava at the beginning of springs, and in the Sakadaš Lake water during the late autumn and winter months. The water was found to be toxic at all investigated sites. AGP results in connection with that the productivity classification of the Middle European waters, demonstrated the investigated were oligotrophic during autumn and winter 1990 and spring 1991.
