Investigations in karst hydrology of Croatia : The Vrana Lake on the Island of Cres
The Vrana Lake on the island of Cres in the Adriatic Sea represents a specific phenomenon of karst hydrology, with an average volume of 220 x 106 m3 of fresh lake water. The lake is a criptode-pression reaching a depth of 79 m with the average water level of ca 14 m a.s.l. The analyses described in this paper are primarily hydrological. The water budget method was used to define the lake cat-chment area of ca 26 km2 . There has been a drastic decrease of ca 3 m in the lake water level. during the last six years. The analysis proved that 53 % was caused by water intake for the water supply demands and 47 % by unfavourable rainfall regime during the analyzed period.
