Preparation and Characterization of Thermoset Epoxy-Layered Silicate Nanocomposites
Nanocomposites based on an epoxy resin and montmorillonite (modified by the intercalation of diprotonated forms of an polyoxpropylene diamine) were prepared by in situ polymerisation. Polyoxypropylene diamine was used as curing agent as well. Composites with different amounts of the organically modified montmorillonite (10, 20 and 40 parts phr epoxy) were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry, DSC, thermogravimetric analysis, TGA and X-ray diffraction , XRD. The prepared composites were optically transparent and the exfoliation of montmorillonite in the epoxy matrix was confirmed by XRD.
