Determination of Optimum Hull Spacing of Wigley Trimaran
The purpose of this work is to determine the amplitude functions and wave pattern resistance of a trimaran from known amplitude functions of component hulls. With known amplitude function values of trimaran component hulls it is possible to determine the optimum position of hulls regarding minimum wave pattern resistance. The Landweber, Hogben and Baba methods based on the wave height measurements in longitudinal cuts have been used. Numerical simulation of experimental determination of the trimaran wave pattern resistance from wave height measurements of trimaran and component hulls has given identical results. A validation of such approach has been carried out by a Rankine source panel method, which has been compared with the experiment in terms of amplitude spectrum, wave pattern resistance and reconstructed waveforms. The obtained results are in good qualitative and reasonable quantitative agreement.
