RESTORATION AND PRESERVATION OF AN ANCIENT CROATIAN WOODEN PAVILLION RESTORATION AND PRESERVATION OF AN ANCIENT CROATIAN WOODEN PAVILLION
This article describes the method of restoration and preservation of an ancient Croatian wooden pavilion, called Jeka (Echo). The Pavilion built in 1843, had been designed by Franz Schücht, a well-known Austrian garden architect. The pavilion is the last to have survived of more than ten pavilions that used to be situated in the park Maksimir in Zagreb in the middle of 19 century. The preservation and renovation of the pavilion&#8217 ; ; s wooden construction were done after a careful analysis of its recent status. Brown rot and soft rot decay produced by fungi and bacteria were found on constructive wooden elements. All decayed wooden parts were checked and repaired. In the preservation of the old, as well as the more recent wooden parts and elements, the most appropriate ecological chemicals and methods were applied. Interestingly enough, the preservatives and methods were used for the first time in Croatia.
