Unrecognized dermatomycoses treated with topical steroids
We present 7 unusual cases of unrecognised dermatomycoses (3 males and 4 females patients aged 18 to 75 years) with prior longer (2 weeks to 1 year) application of topical steroids. Single or multiple (up to 134 lesions) erythematous, circular, oval and annular, mostly well demarcated skin changes were localised on the face in five patients, and on extremities and trunk in other two. In all cases, diagnosis was based on direct mycologic examination and culture. In six cases the causative agent was Trichophyton mentagrophytes and in one Microsporum canis. The treatment with oral terbinafine together with topical antimicotics resulted in complete clinical resolution of the lesions.
