Microstructural characteristics and hardness of as cast Co-Cr-Ti dental alloys
Influence of adding titanium on the microstructure and hardness of as-cast Co-Cr base alloys have been investigated. Twelve samples of Co-Cr-Ti alloys were prepared by arc melting technique under argon atmosphere. Using optical metallography and scanning electron microanalyser has been established that all samples have similar two phases dendritic solidification microstructure, typical for commercial dental alloys. Hardness of alloys increases close proportionally with titanium and chromium content. According to the obtained results, among twelve samples of Co-Cr-Ti alloys with satisfactory microstructure only samples 4, 5 and 6 have appropriate hardness and could be eventually applied as dental materials.
