Treba li unaprijediti postojeći sustav zaštite od zračenja?
The current system of radiation protection is generally based on recommendations promulgated in the Annals of the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) 60. These principles and recommendations were subsequently adopted by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in International Basic Safety Standards for Protection against Ionizing Radiation and for the Safety of Radiation Sources (BSS). However, in recent years several problems with the present system have arisen like to what levels to decontaminate land to, confusing concepts of practices and interventions, dose limits for public are not well understood, natural radiation is not well incorporated into system and meaning of infinite integration of doses. As the new radiation protection philosophy shifts from society-based control of stochastic risks to an individual-based policy, it will consequently require introduction of modified approach to justification and optimisation processes and probably introduction of some new dozimetric quantities. In this paper are presented some of the issues that have to be addressed in the development of the new ICRP recommendations that are planned to be developed in next few years.
