Experimental Investigation of Backward Meta-materials in Waveguide Environment
The rectangular waveguide filled with various meta-materials (negative permittivity wire medium, negative permeability double ring medium and backward medium based on both thin wires and double rings) is experimentally investigated in 10 GHz band. Measured transmission coefficient shows behavior similar to previously published scattering chamber measurements. The backward propagation was explicitly demonstrated by measurements of phase of transmission coefficient for two different lengths of the waveguide. It was also shown that recently demonstrated propagation below the cut-off frequency in waveguide loaded with split-ring resonators occurred due to inherent uniaxial anisotropy of negative permeability medium.
